AQUATICS

SWIMMING AT THE YMCA

At the YMCA, we offer a wide variety of aquatic programs to meet the needs of swimmers of all ages and abilities. Swim lessons, swim teams, lifeguard certification classes, lap swim and exercise classes are all held in our pool year-round. Lap lanes are available every hour we are open. Whether you are a swimmer training for competition or simply swimming laps as part of your healthy lifestyle, lanes can be reserved for use using our Hopkins County Family YMCA App.

Open Swim is a designated time when the pools can be used for recreational swimming or family time.

NEW TO SWIMMING AT THE Y?

In an effort to keep all swimmers safe, our policy requires all swimmers (of all ages) wishing to enjoy the deep end of the large pool to take a swim test. Strong, confident swimmers who pass the swim test will receive a red swimmers wristband that must be worn in the pool. Swimmers without the wristband will be asked to stay in the shallow end of the large pool or enjoy our small pool.

LIFEFUARD TRAINING

We offer training to prepare individuals to become certified lifeguards through Y-USA. This program is a combination of various aquatic and non-aquatic safety components. Each class consists of classroom time and pool time. Lifeguard classes are free for individuals who become a part of our YMCA Lifeguard team and work a minimum of two shifts per week. Lifeguards also receive a free family membership and program discounts. Normal class costs $125 for YMCA Members and $150 for Community Members. For additional information or to enroll, contact Aquatics Coordinator, Ben Burnison, at aquatics@hopcoymca.com or (270) 821-9622.

SWIM LESSONS

Learn to Swim at the YMCA. The Y’s swim lesson program is designed to help participants reach their goals and provide a clear path to being safe and having fun in the water. We offer progressive Group Swim Lessons each month for those interested in learning in a small group setting and Private Swim Lessons for those interested in more of a one-on-one setting.

Benefits of Swim Lessons at the Y:

  • Accommodating students of varying abilities and ages;
  • Fostering a sense of achievement and self-confidence;
  • Staying grounded in a skill continuum that allows students to move easily from one stage to the next with clearly defined stages of progress along the way. See detailed information on the new skills taught in each of the stages.
  • Encouraging students to have fun and develop new friendships through group activities
  • Improving communication about student’s progress

Olympic Gold Medalist Lilly King to Attend Celebration of $2 Million Renovation Project

The Hopkins County Family YMCA is proud to announce the grand opening of the newly renovated Badgett Family Aquatics Center with a celebratory ribbon cutting event on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Adding to the excitement, Olympic Gold Medalist and World Champion Swimmer Lilly King will be in attendance to commemorate this transformative project and share her support for youth swimming and community engagement.

The event will include remarks from YMCA leadership, followed by a ceremonial ribbon cutting and tours of the updated facility. Community members of all ages are invited to attend and view the newly renovated facility, enjoy refreshments, and meet-and-greet opportunities with Lilly King.

“This renovation reflects our commitment to providing exceptional facilities that promote health, fitness, and community,” said Keith Cottoner, CEO of the Hopkins County Family YMCA. “We are honored to have Lilly King join us as we celebrate this important step forward in serving Hopkins County and beyond.”
